Strategy[edit]
Since the Raider culture has very weak site controlling capability and doesn't do much with what it has, Southron Archer is often largely overlooked. The ability of Southron Archer is however very powerful and when combined with a good site controlling shadow and some mechanism to resurrect Southron Archer at the right time. Generally besiegers are the best at site controlling, although Dunland and Uruks can get the job done too. Two possibilities for keeping Southron Archer from clogging your hand early while still allowing play are Gimli, Dwarf of Erebor and Preparations/Rest By Blind Night. Both allow Southron Archer to be put back in the deck. Gimli, DOE allows it to stay a surprise while Preparations allows Southron Archer to potentially be played multiple times.
Strengths and Weaknesses[edit]
Strong Versus...[edit]
- Any form of healing deck because all the wounds are applied in the archery phase
- Choke, 6 twilight is all you need vs 3 or fewer companions if there are enough sites controlled
- Skirmish Fellowships, they won't make it to the skirmish phase
Weak Versus...[edit]
- Elendil, The Tall or other site liberation cards
- Legolas, Greenleaf and Aragorn's Bow, can be avoided with High Vantage
- Ents or other high vitality and companion fellowship, Greed and Shotgun Enquea are your friend!
